Independent

Es algo que se es o no se es. No hablo de independencia como la característica de las personas que se han emancipado, sino desde el punto de vista psicológico.

¿Qué significa para mí ser independiente?

Creo que no es algo que implique no necesitar amigos, familia o una persona con la que compartir mi vida; no le veo sentido tampoco a la implicación de no querer casarse nunca, ni a la de no querer tener hijos... desde mi punto de vista esas son ideas equivocadas, que muchas veces tienden a ser la interpretación general.

Ser independiente para mí significa ser capaz de no necesitar la aprobación de los demás para vivir según lo que creas correcto, significa que necesitas tiempo para ti, lo cual no quita que necesites tiempo para los demás, significa que das por hecha la necesidad de pensar primero en ti sin que eso signifique no pensar en los demás.

Ser independiente, ante todo, es una forma de ver la vida...

It's something that you are or you are not. I'm not talking about independence as the characteristic of those persones that have become emancipated, but from the psychological point of view.

What does it mean for me to be independent?

I think it isn't something that implies not needing friends, family or a person whom I could share my life with; I don't see any sense either in the belief that independent persons don't ever want to get married nor have children... from my point of view that are wrong ideas, that most times tend to be the general interpretation.

What being independent means to me is to be able to not need others' approval to live according to what you think is right, it means to me that you need time for yourself (which doesn't mean that you don't need time for your people), it means to me that you take for granted the need of first thinking about yourself, always bearing in mind that you have to also think about others.
